Airbus Signs Aircraft Deal with Iran; Political Uncertainty Remains

26.12.2016

According to a communique by Airbus, the first deliveries will be at the start of 2017. The two sides praised the agreement and considered it a step forward for business objectives, as well as for global projection.

Airlines in Iran have been operating for decades on ageing fleets of Boeing and Airbus airliners, plus some Russian planes bought or leased since the revolution.

Under the agreement, Airbus would deliver 46 single aisle A320 series commercial jets, 38 wide body A330 along with 16 more A350 long range wide body aircraft for worldwide flight operations. Airbus, the European aviation consortium, made the announcement on Thursday.

Farhad Parvaresh, director and CEO of Iran Air, the national carrier taking conveyance of the planes, called the arrangement "the following conclusive stage" in the restoration of the aircraft's business armada. Both deals were conceivable as a result of arrangements in the atomic assertion amongst Iran and six world powers that produced results about a year back, which lifted many endorses on Iran in return for its irrefutable vows of serene atomic work.

The agreement follows the implementation of the JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action), its associated rules and guidance and included new commercial aircraft orders as well as a comprehensive civil aviation package.

The Boeing planes will be delivered over a 10-year period, Parvaresh said.

Iran's national carrier Iran Air has completed an order for 100 Airbus planes with a list price of around 20 billion U.S. dollar as the Islamic Republic opens up to the West. If the aircraft deal with Iran is revoked, industry analysts fears that Iran will break the nuclear program as well.
